Chicago Safe Start Services
The focus of the Chicago Safe Start program at Family Focus Englewood is to create a safe and healing space where people can discuss the negative impact that violence has on young children, while simultaneously learning ways to help and support children, and their families, who have been exposed to violence.
Family Focus CSS services include:
- Educational Workshops
- Family, Parent, and Caregiver Educational Support Groups
- Parent-Child Interaction & Play Groups
- Individual, Family, and Group Counseling
- Children’s Exposure to Violence (CEV) Trainings for Community Workers & Leaders
- Developmental Assessments
- Special Outreach services
- Information and Referra

Englewood Chicago Safe Start Community Council
Council role and activities
- Train on CEV and related issues
- Organize community events to raise awareness about the issue
- Bring in local providers to create seamless service delivery in the community. Current partners include over 29 programs and organizations
- A person or agency can become a member by attending 2 out of the 4 Council meetings held each fiscal year

Noteable events in 2010:
Hands Across Englewood” was an event that aimed to spread the word about CEV across the community…and we did it! Over 200 children and adults attended the Rally, which included a “CEV Education Mini-Series,” children’s activities, a resource fair, and music and dancing.
