Public Awareness Team
Charge:
To implement a public awareness campaign that increases knowledge
that children's exposure to violence can be harmful and that there
are resource available. The target audiences are first responders,
service providers, and parents/community members in target communities.
This committee began its work in 2001.
Summary of
Efforts to Date: The Public
Awareness team meets monthly, working toward a long-term goal of
changing public policy to recognize and support exposure to violence
as an important issue. Short-term goals include (1) increasing awareness
of exposure to violence, (2) encouraging participation in professional
development, and (3) increasing awareness of services that will
be available in the community. Key steps to reaching the goal include:
- Interviewing additional
community members (Police Districts 5 and 7)
- Preparation for Public Awareness
